Music Review | Take That Wonderland

take that, wonderland

The date:16th June. The place: Carrow Road Stadium, Norwich. The Band: Take That.
I had been looking forward to this gig for ages and having seen them live once before knew I would be in for a treat.

I chose to get a standing ticket which was a decision I made due to the fact I have panic attacks. I get panicky in trapped situations (crowded tubes, shops etc) and I didn’t want my night ruined by having to leave if I felt like an attack was coming on. Best decision ever as it got me closer to the boys!

I arrived at the stadium with lots of time to spare and sat round the edge of the standing pitch which meant I could see the stage very clearly and also an exit route should I need to get out. The warm up band was none other than 90s pop girl band All Saints. I used to like their music back in the day and they did a decent half hour set. They played mostly their popular old songs like Under the Bridge, Booty Call, Lady Marmalade and Pure Shores. They were very good though and got a great response from the ever increasing crowd.

They finished around 8.00pm and then at around 8.30pm the boys arrived. They actually appeared from within the crowd and walked through the standing crowd onto the stage! You can imagine the screams that went up! Mark Owen was near me (not near enough to touch sadly).

Their new album ‘Wonderland’ was the inspiration for this concert and the dancers and set up was a cross between circus and hippy. Their show is a spectacle to behold. It is not just three guys standing with microphones they sing, dance, play instruments and the cast of dancers add such a theatrical dimension. The set list was a great mix of their new albums and not forgetting their old roots including the ever popular dance routine to Pray.

The boys

They interact with the crowd, speed off for quick costume changes, get you to sing along and genuinely give you an amazing feel good show.

The show finished about 2 hours later with an encore of favourites Never Forget and Rule the World and to top it off there were fireworks.

I felt so elated walking back to the hotel and had an amazing time. I truly hope these guys never stop touring, I just love seeing them live.
