My Favourite Christmas Films

I love Christmas and watching a movie with some mulled wine or whilst wrapping up your presents is part of the tradition or at least part of my tradition.
I am sure some of my favourites are some of yours too – do let me know would love to find out what yours are!

The Snowman (1982)
I remember watching this as a little kid and crying at the end. I have since watched it as an adult with my niece and nephew….and cried at the end. Gets me every time! Such a simple story, animation and no words but such a beautiful and festive film. I also like the other films by the same writer Father Christmas, Snowman and the Snowdog and The Bear. A must see.

Santa Claus (1985)
Another oldie but goodie starring Dudley Moore as an elf ‘Patch’ and Mrs Claus is played by Judy Cornwell who UK readers might know as Daisy the less classy sister of Hyacinth Bucket in Keeping Up Appearances. I like this film as its got a moral to the story as well as being full of the usual Christmas ideals of flying reindeer, hard working elves and a fat Santa.

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
How you can watch this film and not believe that Richard Attenborough is Santa Claus I don’t know. I love the scene in the court room when the lawyers flash their ‘I Believe’ badges at each other, you want to believe it too. Richard is no longer with us he passed away last summer but he will always be my favourite actor to portray the jolly man in the red suit.

The Polar Express (2004)
I love Tom Hanks in anything anyway but especially when he voices animation like Toy Story and this. Another feel good film with a moral to the tale making someone believe; it just makes you feel all cosy inside.

The Holiday (2006)
I guess this isn’t necessarily a film on top of everyone’s list for Christmas movies as its more ‘rom-com’ than ‘Christmas’ but it is set at Christmas and has lots of snow. It also has one of my favourite actresses Kate Winslet and Jude Law is annoyingly cute in this. I watch it most years and still love it just as much, it just feels warm and lovely.

So there you go a few of my favourites. Happy watching whatever you will be over this festive period.
