Superheroes and villains

Superheroes and villains

I have never really regarded myself as a particularly big fan of superhero films but when I look back I am a bit of a geek when it comes to it.

Going way back to the original Superman films with Christopher Reeves, the Micheal Keaton era of Batman and then the introduction of the Spiderman films I have always seeked to see them at the movies.

Currently on my wishlist is the new Wonderwoman and Spiderman films. I am really excited about Tom Holland as the new spider hero and if his debut in the last Avenger film is anything to go by, its going to be good. I was a fan of Toby Maguire in the first couple of his films and I really liked Andrew Garfield too. Nice to see they have picked another Brit!

I have caught up with the majority of the Avenger films now and I am loving them. My nephew is also a fan so its nice to chat about them together! We both also like Ant Man. I have always had a bit of a crush on Paul Rudd since Clueless so that was my excuse for watching it but I really liked it, a proper every man becoming a hero.

I like the X Men franchise but not as much as the Avengers. Not sure why really but I cant get into them as much. I have seen a couple at the cinema but I don’t rush to see them like I might the others.

In terms of Batman Micheal Keaton is hard to beat for me. Batman and Batman Returns are dark, moody and he is just spot on. The Joker and Penguin are two of the best villains out there too. Val Kilmer was okay until it got super cheesy and best to forget the George Clooney phase. *cringe* The Christoper Nolan trilogy with Christian Bale was a great way of getting back to the dark roots of Bruce Wayne. Bale was great as the man in black and who can fault Heath Ledger as the new Joker. Gary Oldman as ever was totally watchable too. I want to like the final part of the trilogy but Tom Hardy (not a fan don’t see the appeal sorry) totally ruined it for me with his ludicrous accent which you can hardly decipher. Such a shame as it had potential to be the perfect climax to the three films but there you go, my humble opinion.

Superman is probably my third favourite superhero after Batman and Spiderman. I was brought up with Christopher Reeves versions being on TV then during my teen years the TV series starring Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher was on which was fun. Now Henry Cavill has taken over the mantle and he is certainly a pumped up version of the caped crusader. I did like the first film he did, hated the Batman VS Superman one so am open to see what happens with his character in the future.

So there you have it. I hold my hands up I am a superhero nerd. Who would I like to be? I think its got to be Catwoman!
